Back In The Fifties To The Sixties Some Forty Years Ago
I Knew Him Through His Poetry Though Him I Did Not Know.
He Glorified In Writing Many The Sporting Victory
And Back Then In Old Duhallow There Was None As Great As He
At Writing Songs And Poetry Duhallow’s Laureate Of Rhyme
And Still His Songs And Verses Have Withstood The Test Of Time.
In The Fifties And The Sixties His Was A Household Name
And His Songs And Poems Are Living To His Enduring Fame
And When He Migrated What Was A Loss To Duhallow Was Somewhere Else’s Gain
But He Left Us With His Poetry And The Memories Remain
Of The Fifties And The Sixties When He Was In His Prime
He Was A Natural Wordsmith Far More Than A Man Of Rhyme
The Laureate Of Duhallow People Like Him Are So Rare
But The Wanderlust Was In Him And He Went To Live Elsewhere.
